Riverside County guide
Injury claims against Riverside County public agencies
If a city, the County of Riverside, the State or a transit agency may be responsible for your injury, California generally requires a written claim to that agency within six months before you can sue (Gov. Code § 911.2). Below are the verified filing details for each public entity.
Why the six-month deadline matters
Before you can sue a city, the County, the State or another public entity for an injury, you generally must present a written claim to that entity within six months (Gov. Code § 911.2). The claim must include specific information (Gov. Code § 910). If the entity rejects the claim in writing, the lawsuit usually must be filed within six months of that notice (Gov. Code § 945.6). The California courts' self-help guide summarizes these steps.
