How to get a crash report from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office

Last updated:

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office handles crash reports for collisions its deputies investigate, including in the cities that contract with the Sheriff and in unincorporated areas. Reports are requested from the station that handled the crash. This page lists the verified request rules, contacts and every Sheriff station.

How to requestIn person: request the report from the Sheriff's station that wrote it or responded to the incident. [source]
Reports may also be requested by mail or through the Information Services Bureau (the link on the page goes to the Sheriff's Contact Us page). [source]
Temecula: call the Southwest Station at 951-696-3000 to check whether the report is ready. A releasable report can be faxed to a substation for pickup. [source]
Formal California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests: the Sheriff recommends checking with the local patrol station first for routine report requests. [source]
FeeFees, if any, must be paid before the report is released (the general FAQ gives no amount). [source]
Temecula Substations page only: $50 per report copy, paid by cash or pre-printed check. The page first tells you to call the Southwest Station to check whether the report is ready. This amount appears only on this page and is not stated as a department-wide fee. [source]
TimingIf it has been less than 14 days since the incident, call the handling station first to confirm the report is available. [source]
For CPRA requests (not routine station requests), the department must respond within 10 days. The deadline can be extended by up to 14 days in unusual circumstances. [source]
Who can requestCrime/accident reports are treated as confidential and are generally released only to interested parties or by court order. [source]
Traffic accident reports generally go only to people involved in the crash or with another legitimate interest, such as insurers (cites Vehicle Code 16005). [source]
Government-issued photo ID is required in person; a copy of the ID must be enclosed for mail requests. [source]
