Vehicle Code § 21658.1: lane splitting

Last updated:

California defines lane splitting as riding a two-wheeled motorcycle between rows of stopped or moving vehicles in the same lane, and allows the CHP to develop educational safety guidelines. A crash during lane splitting is still decided by who acted unreasonably; the fact that the rider was between lanes does not settle fault on its own.
